Discípulo no grego quer dizer aluno, aprendiz, aquele que aprende. Aquele que segue e se entrega ao ensino de alguém. Aquele que se assenta aos pés de um mestre para aprender com ele. Discípulo já era uma palavra usual nos tempos do novo testamento, tanto que o termo não foi usado apenas para designar os seguidores de Jesus.

Disciple in Greek means student, apprentice, one who learns. One who follows and entrusts himself to someone's teaching. One who sits at the feet of a master to learn from him. Disciple was already a common word in New Testament times, so much so that the term was not just used to designate the followers of Jesus.

Portanto o discípulo de Cristo pode ser assim definido como toda pessoa que sendo salva por meio da fé em Jesus Cristo, inclusive uma criança, passa a segui-lo como seu senhor. Esta é a definição de discípulo. E a expressão fazer discípulos que é encontrada na grande comissão em Mateus 28.19, e que no original grego está na forma imperativa, literalmente significa discipular.

Therefore, the disciple of Christ can be defined as every person who, being saved through faith in Jesus Christ, including a child, begins to follow him as their Lord. This is the definition of a disciple. And the expression to make disciples which is found in the great commission in Matthew 28:19, and which in the original Greek is in the imperative form, literally means to disciple.
